How to Care for a Wool Sweater — A Gentle Guide

A good wool sweater is your skin's most intimate companion.
It's not fast fashion but a quiet ally that warms you,
understands you, and adapts to your rhythms without complaint.
Yet wool isn't invincible, it asks for some tenderness in return.
As we say: “A sweater only grows warmer with years.”
And that warmth begins with how you choose to treat it.

1. Less washing doesn't mean less clean.

Wool is nature's self-cleaning fiber - unlike synthetics, it naturally resists odors and oils.
You don't need frequent washes, every 5-10 wears is ideal.
Without visible stains or odors, simply airing your sweater in a breezy spot and giving it a gentle pat is perfectly sufficient.

2. Handwashing remains the gentlest method.

1.    Prepare lukewarm water (~30°C) with mild wool detergent (e.g. Woolite or baby laundry detergent).
2.    Turn sweater inside out, gently press and soak for 5-10 minutes (no rubbing).
3.    Rinse gently with clean water until all suds disappear.
Golden Rule: Never wring!
Twisting only distorts fibers and stiffens the fabric.

3. Proper Drying to Prevent Warping

After washing, roll in a dry towel, gently press to absorb excess water.
Then lay the sweater flat to dry in a shaded, well-ventilated area - avoiding both direct sunlight and hanging.
Always avoid hanging wet wool - the water's weight stretches fibers permanently, ruining the original fit.

4. Proper Storage Guide

1.    Always Clean Before Storing, remove sweat/food residues to prevent moths
2.    Fold, never hang
3.    Place natural moth repellent sachets (cedar or lavender) for pest protection and a fresh scent.
4.    For off-season long-term storage, sealed bags can be used - but only when completely bone-dry."

5. Pilling Solutions

Pilling is wool's natural characteristic - especially in high-friction areas (cuffs, underarms).
✖ Avoid razors/scissors - they damage fibers
✓ Use a fabric shaver or knit comb gently
Think of it as fiber therapy -
the more care you give, the richer its texture becomes.

Your care extends beyond the sweater—to yourself.

A sweater tended with patience, grows softer, more personal, until it carries your scent and warmth.
This maintenance isn't chore, it's how beauty endures, a daily ceremony.

Wool reciprocates your care, the more tenderness you give, the longer it remains by your side.
